Phonon Applet Introduction

This applet was developed to assist students in visually understanding the motion of atoms associated with optical and acoustic phonons.

It is assumed that the one-dimensional model has already been developed in class (see here) and the derivation has produced the dispersion relations

The phonon applet plots the dispersion for optical and acoustic phonons and provides a dynamic illustration of the phonon vibration.
